Offaly V Louth

(Oldest Posts First)

With Louth securing their first league win in over two years last weekend can the Wee County put back to back league wins together. The last time they played Offaly in the league they beat the Faithful County two years ago down in Tullamore. This was Offaly's first league defeat in three years at home. Since then Offaly have only won one league match in O'Connor park out of six matches.

Offaly won their first Leinster SFC in 1960 when they beat us in the final. We were hot favorites. Them were the days. Can we have the. Back.

19616609 the good oule days indeed. Back in 1960 that was Offaly's only second championship win over Louth in eleven meetings. Since then they had have the upper hand only losing three matches in eleven matches against the Wee County.

"Give me lucky generals" is supposed to have been said by Napoleon. Louth football seems to have got one in Wayne Kierans. Firstly Laois lose home advantage and then an Offaly back drives the ball into his own net in the last minute. What surprises can we expect from Sligo next time out to make sure we win? And a win here in our next game is absolutely essential. It would put us on 6 pts and ensure we stay up (the average points for staying up in Div. 3 over the last 10 years is 5.4 pts. We stayed up on 6 in 2009. And maybe we could evem start to believe in the possibility of promotion. The average points for promotion from Div. 3 over the 10 years is 10 and actually Louth went up on 8 in 2016. So we can start dreaming again after 2 great wins and even hoping for miracles.

Louth also gained promotion on 8 points in 2011.

Any win is great after last year but to win like that is extra sweet.
Play til the final whistle, thats all you can do.
Offaly must be sickened.
The week off might slow momentum slightly but hopefully will give the lads a chance to recharge.
We will be favourites the next day which is when we always seem to struggle, especially at home.
So we can't afford to be complacent.
Keep working hard and keep 15 on the field!

This might be a much more talented bunch than we think , the pick of our underage club cship winning teams for the past few years now playing together with the experience of McDonnell,Decky,Bevan these young lads can only get better. Discipline will be very important going forward we don't have enough to keep getting results without the full compliment on the pitch between red cards and black we have been operating with 13/14 men for too long. Missing burnsey , grimes, crouchy and ciaran byrne still to comeback this squad might play a lot of football before the end of the season. Young fearless men playing to the death under a good manager who has improved since game 1 of the league up the wee county another win and then we can have a different debate about promotion . Good to see big jim back yesterday.

It is my belief that somebody realised realised after about 71 minutes that you win games by scoring and decided to play like Old Kerry. Kick the ball forward, go for your points, get it in to the big full forward and pressurise the backs. Give us those last five minutes over and over again. Thanks lads. But no more of working it back to the goalkeeper. Look at what happened to Offaly. I'm still delirious .

Great to get the win yesterday. I thought overall we deserved it but were lucky to get it in the end. The standard of refereeing in this Division really has to be looked at. One of their goal came from the ref deciding that Andy touched the ball on the ground. I was very close to the play and can say with 100% certainty that not only did Andy not touch the ball on the ground he was actually push and never even gathered the ball. I think the ref blew and then had to come up with a reason. He was later tripped in front of the ref and he let it go. Declan Byrne got a black for obstruction but the only thing he could have done to avoid this was to jump out of the Offaly players way. Brannigan was done for over carrying which definitely wasn't. Near the end of the game the ref even blew for a mark after their full caught it. Great the see Jim Mc Eneaney back too, Looking forward to the Sligo game.
