Louth's Wayne Carroll
NAME: Wayne Carroll
DATE OF BIRTH: 6-2-75
HEIGHT: 6' 4"
WEIGHT: 14st
CLUB: Lannleire
COUNTY: Louth
NOTABLE SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS (GAELIC): Intermediate Championship and 3 Intermediate League wins with Lannleire. Represented Louth at Minor, Under 21, Junior. Captain of Dundalk RTC Trench cup 1996
NOTABLE SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS (OTHER): Mars FAI Youths Cup runners up medal in 1993 with Rangers Schoolboy League side from Dundalk. Dundalk Schoolboy League Player of the Year award
INTERCOUNTY DEBUT: Championship debut was v Meath in the 1992 MFC at Walterstown. I played in midfield. Meath won by 1-10 to 0-5 and went on to All-Ireland glory
TOUGHEST OPPONENT: Dara O Se (Kerry); Ken Reilly (Louth); Ronan Mooney (Offaly); Martin Farrelly (Louth) - thankfully he plays with my club!
FAVOURITE GROUNDS: Celtic Park, Derry; Casement Park, Belfast; O'Moore Park, Portlaoise; Pairc Ui Mhuiri, Dunleer
HOBBIES: When not playing sports, I enjoy watching most sports. Music, reading, travelling and socialising
FAVOURITE POSITION: Midfield
FAVOURITE PLAYERS: Ollie McDonnell (Louth); Anthony Tohill (Derry); Peter Cosgrave (Clare); Martin Cronin (Cork)
INFLUENCES ON YOUR CAREER: Parents - Patsy and Peggy; George Reynolds - the underage coach at Lannleire
THE HIGH POINT OF YOUR CAREER TO DATE: Captaining the Louth Under 21 team through the Leinster campaign in 1996
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Losing to Meath in the Leinster Under 21 Final at Parnell Park that same year
OTHER PLAYERS WITH A PROMISING FUTURE: Declan O'Sullivan (Louth); Martin Farrelly (Louth); James McKeown
WAYS OF IMPROVING THE GAME: I'm not sure the game needs improving. Judging by watching the T na G re-runs of great 70s matches, I can't see why any changes have ever been made. Although mass brawls must stop
DISLIKES ABOUT THE GAA: I might get in trouble for saying this, but I really dislike unfair referees, or referees who are biased or hold grudges against teams. Also 'knockers' who go to matches to criticise players who are trying to do their best
DO YOU HAVE ANY RELATIVES INVOLVED IN GAELIC GAMES?: No
PERSON YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO MEET: I wouldn't mind meeting Homer Simpson and Liam Gallagher for a few pints
FAVOURITE PERSONAL SAYING OR TERM OF ABUSE: 'I don't make predictions and I never will'. And the usual ones directed towards referees!
PET HATES: Early/late buses
FAVOURITE MUSIC: Dance music, Oasis
FAVOURITE FILM: Trainspotting
IDEAL DATE: Probably Louise Nurding, the popstar. I hear she likes footballers! Maybe we'd get something to eat, go to a club, and then back to her place to check out her CD collection
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED? As a fair player, and maybe as a future part of successful club and county sides
