It's all about performance for Louth boss Kierans

Louth's Wayne Kierans

New Louth football manager Wayne Kierans will be more concerned with the performance than the result as the Wee County kickstart their season this weekend.

For Kierans' first competitive game at the helm, the Reds entertain Wexford in an O'Byrne Cup clash on Saturday, and the O'Connells clubman admits it's not a must-win encounter:

"The result certainly isn't the be-all and end-all," he told The Argus. "We'll be looking for a progression in the performance from game to game.

"We'd hope to reproduce last week's display against Meath for the full 70 minutes next time and then you'd be hoping to see an improvement again against Wicklow.

"The guys have another full week's training behind them and we're getting closer to a full pick, so we're looking forward to getting started."
