Louth won't have home advantage against Dublin in the event of the teams meeting in next year's Leinster SFC quarter-final.
The Wee County will face Wexford in the first round, with the winners earning the right to host the five-in-a-row chasing All-Ireland champions. But while Innovate Wexford Park is one of four grounds in Leinster deemed capable of staging a championship game involving the Dubs, the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda falls well short of the standard required to host such a fixture.
Louth GAA recently scrapped plans to redevelop the ailing venue, instead reviving plans to build a 12,000-capacity stadium at DkIT.
“Drogheda was on the cards for a long time. Earlier in the year they decided that it wasn’t going to be a viable option for them," Leinster Council chairman Jim Bolger told the Irish Daily Mirror.
“In fairness to Louth, they’re after coming back very quickly with a proposal for Dundalk and that’s in its infancy now but it’s a positive step for them as well so hopefully that will work out for Louth long-term.”
