Louth: The draws for the Bord na Mona O’Byrne Cup were made last week and Louth are in group 2 along with Longford and Wicklow. Group 1 has Carlow, Westmeath, Offaly and Kildare. Group 3 has Meath, Laois and Wexford. Dublin received a bye into the competition’s semi-final stage, like they need that don’t they?

Finals: The line-ups for the counties football final have now being completed, in the junior final Glyde Rangers will play Dundalk Young Irelands in Dowdallshill next Sunday. In the intermediate final St. Fechins will play St. Mochtas in the Grove on Sunday 14th October. In the minor championship St. Mochtas/St. Brides will play St. Marys and in the senior championship Naomh Mairtin will play holders Newtown Blues, both on Sunday 21st October in the Gaelic Grounds Drogheda.

Bingo: Bingo will continue in our clubrooms this Wednesday 3rd October at 8.00pm, jackpot €6,100 in 48 numbers.

Money: JP McManus has made an incredible gesture to the GAA by donating €100,000 to every county board in Ireland. The famous race horse owner and long-time Limerick GAA sponsor will give out a total of €3.2million to all 32 counties with the figure being divided equally among their local clubs. A letter to each county board states that the donation is intended to support the continued development of Gaelic games in the country.

Even in the city: Just a thought about a thing that happened over the weekend in Dublin when the Parnell’s GAA club conceded their place in the Senior A Football Championship a couple of days before their semi-final relegation play-off with Lucan Sarsfields. As a result of their forfeit the other semi-final was cancelled and Parnell’s will play in the Dublin Senior B Championship next year while the other three teams will remain in the Senior A Championship. The club, who Stephen Cluxton the Dublin captain plays for, lost every game in their championship group with a minus 48 points difference. So even in the home of the All-Ireland Champs with all their resources and players they have problems, giving walk over’s in divisions 4, 5 and 6 in the wee county does not sound so bad now, does it?

Under 13: The O’Connells/Stabannon under 13 team will play in the division 3A final next Tuesday evening in Darver at 6.45pm, all support welcome.

Slimming World: Slimming World will be in our clubrooms every Monday from 7.00pm with consultant Debbie 087-2501622.
