Louth manager Pete McGrath blasted the attitude of his players after their dismal Leinster SFC first round loss to Carlow.

Relegated from Division 2 of the Allianz League in the spring without registering a point, the Wee County's wretched run continued when they crashed to a 11-point defeat in Portlaoise.

McGrath, who guided his native Down to All-Ireland titles in 1991 and '94, pulled no punches when he spoke to RTÉ afterwards: "That was so disappointing in a game that for periods in the first half we controlled and were playing very well.

"We just imploded in the second half and whenever that happens in championship football, serious questions have to be asked about players and their attitude and their ambition; what they hope to achieve as individual players.

"In that second half today, I'm afraid it was very, very, very poor; very disappointing and exceptionally discouraging."
