Sean O'Mahonys staged a dramatic comeback to score a 0-13 to 0-11 victory over St Patricks in a lively Division 1 encounter at the Point Road on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors looked set for victory when late scores from Danny O'Connor and Paddy Keenan had them two points up with two minutes to play. Despite having Stephen Kilcoyne dismissed for a second yellow card, the O'Mahonys showed great character in the closing stages as they kicked four unanswered points through Conor Finnegan and John O'Brien to claim the victory.

The first half proved to be a shoot-out between Paddy Keenan (5) and Stephen Kilcoyne (4) as teams battled to seize the initiative but it was a late point from the Cathal Grogan who sent the visitors in at the break with a 0-7 to 0-6 advantage.

Newtown Blues collected their second win of the league season when they defeated St Brides by 0-11 to 0-4 at Newfoundwell.

The Blues dominated the game and aided by a strong breeze and three well-taken frees by Ross Nally they had built up 0-8 to no score lead at half time. St Brides eventually found the target when substitute, Cathal McKenna, opened his side's account on 38 minutes. This was quickly followed by a Kevin Hearty point to narrow the gap.

However, the Blues were never in danger of letting the lead slip and points from Nall and Kevin Carr helped them seal the win. JP Rooney scored a late equaliser to secure a 1-9 apiece draw for Nh Mairtin in their clash with Dreadnots at Clogherhead.

Quality wasn't of the highest standard due to weather but it was Nh Mairtin who started the brightest. They played some good possession football against the wind and went in ahead at half time by one point at 0-5 to 0-4 through good scores from Conor Whelan, JP Rooney and Eoghan Callaghan.

A Stephen Campbell goal had the Mairtins four points clear in the second half but the Dreadnots responded with a goal from Richard Kirwan before taking the lead going into injury time. However, Rooney kept his nerve to land a free and give the champions their first point of the new season.

St Marys recorded the biggest win of the day as they turned in a commanding performance to defeat Dundalk Gaels by 3-19 to 1-2. The visitors to The Ramparts were in fine form from the opening whistle and an early goal from Darren Clarke had them on top. They continued to dominate the remainder of the half and a goal from Eimhin Keenan saw them stretch the advantage to 2-8 to no score at the break.

Conor Gillespie added a third goal just after the restart and it wasn't until the 50th minute that the Gaels got off the mark through Jason Clarke before Niall Hearty added a consolation goal.

Clan na Gael recorded their first win of the new season when they emerged winners over the Geraldines on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-13 at Haggardstown.

The visitors were in good form in the early stages as goals from Conall McKeever and Jason Cullen helped them to a healthy advantage. However, the Gers go themselves back in contention at the break when a goal from Paddy Hoey cut the gap to just 2-5 to 1-7.

McKeever added his second goal after the restart and that ultimately proved to be the difference between the teams. The Gers fought to the end but despite points from Paddy Geoghegan they were unable to avoid a second successive defeat.

Meanwhile, Mattock Rangers maintained their winning run by defeating Cooley Kickhams by 0-11 to 0-9 at Fr McEvoy Park.

The Collon men took a grip of the game in the first half as they established a 0-7 to 0-2 lead at the break. Cooley fought back into contention in the second half but were unable to complete the comeback. David Reid scored five points for the winners while Daniel Bannon and Aaron O'Brien kicked important points. Fearghal Malone and Eoin McDaid kicked three apiece for Cooley but it wasn't enough to take anything from the game.
