Dromard club notes

April 18, 2017

Division 1: Dromard 1-14 Fr Manning Gaels 1-06: Well done to the senior team who recovered from their defeat to Abbeylara in the opening game of the league with a win over Fr Manning Gaels on Easter Sunday in Pairc na nGael. Dromard led by 1-6 to 0-5 at half time. The Dromard goal was scored by Francis McGee who rounded his man before finishing well to the net from a narrow angle. Dromard dominated possession in the first half and should have been further ahead but for a number of missed goal opportunities. The visitors enjoyed some spells of possession in the second half but Dromard kept the score board ticking over with fine points scored by Diarmuid Masterson, Ross McNerney and Francis McGee to seal a good win ahead of the visit of Killoe on Saturday next. Team: Gavin McNerney, David Petit, Niall Vance, Paul McGee, James Mimnagh, John Sheridan, Peter Reynolds, Bryan McCormack, Diarmuid Masterson, Emmet Masterson, Cian Mimnagh, Bernard Sheridan, Padraig Martin, Francis McGee, Peter Mimnagh. Sub used: Ross McNerney, Conor Duffy.

Football Cup 3 and Division 3: Our second squad has a busy week with two games away from home. On Wednesday evening, the team was defeated by a very strong Killoe side in Emmet Park. Well done to Tommy O'Neill, Keith Masterson and Dermot Reilly who all made welcome returns to the Dromard colours. On Saturday evening the squad played their third game in a week when they took on Legan in Forgney. The final scoreline of Dromard 1-6 Legan Sarsfields 2-12 does not reflect the closely contested nature of this game as Dromard competed very strongly throughout. With Dromard trailing by just a single point ten minutes after the break, two  quick fire Legan goals changed the course of the game. The Dromard players on duty put in a strong effort throughout and can build on this performance in the upcoming matches. Dromard lined out as follows: Sean McNerney, James Conefrey, Conor Duffy, Keith Masterson, Ronan Smith, Pauric McNerney, Michael Reynolds, Kevin Murtagh, Noel Reynolds, Oisin Hourican, Martin McGee, Fergal Berry, Tommy O'Neill, Peter Mimnagh. Subs: Patrick Mimnagh and Niall Gray.

Fixtures: Best of luck to the senior team who take on Killoe in Division 1 on Saturday evening next (22nd) at 6pm in Pairc na nGael. All support welcome for this important game.

Reports: Our U/12's made the long trip to Rathcline and in a low scoring game were victorious 0-0 to 0-3.Team:-Louise Tierney (0-1 free), Naoise Hourican, Kate O'Connor, Ruth Gray, Melanie Reilly, Kate McEntire (0-1),Elena O'Reily, Niamh Corrigan,Mariah Reilly(0-1),Emer Brady, Kate Waters and Grace Tierney. We would like to thank Rathcline for their assistance in helping deal with an injury to one of our girls which left her very wobbly on her feet, and to say she is now fully recovered.

U/14's: the panel travelled to Killoe to play in the first round of the Championship. Played in perfect weather conditions and with the breeze in the first half we got off to a great start with an Avril Cosgrove goal. The pace of the game was very fast and our defense was tested by god Killoe attacks, with keeper Louise Tierney busy throughout. Half time we led 0-1 to 1-2.In the second half despite a good start with points from Cathy Conefrey, Brianna and Siobhan Murphy, Killoe came back with goals to the Dromard net. The girls never gave up though and played up to the final whistle losing out by 3 points Team:-Louise Tierney, Nicole Conboy, Orflaith McGauren, Rhiannagh Lennon, Alyssa McErlean, Avril Cosgrove(0-1), Orflaith Mulligan, Cathy Conefrey(1-2), Brianna Murphy(0-2),Paige Robinson, Siobhan Murphy(0-2) and Ellie Reynolds.

U/16's: this group made the short trip to St.Helens where they at last got their season up and running with a comfortable win against the home side. Team:-Eleanor Rabitte, Aoife Brady, Kathy Farrell, Gemma Reilly,Clodagh Duffy, Sarah Murphy, Karen McLoughlin, Shauna Hagan, Lauren Holloway and Cathy Conefrey. Gold Cup without County Players left us relying on several u/16 girls who had played the previous night and in a close fought match with neighbours Colmcille we ended up losing by 3 points. However there is an immediate chance to turn that score round as we meet again on Sunday in a Div 2 match (see fixtures)

Easter Egg Draw: Held on Sunday in Dromard clubrooms at half time in the Men's Div 1 match v Fr.Manning Gaels, the winner of the gigantic Easter Egg was Gemma Reilly from our u/16 Panel. Don't forget to save some Gemma for your teammates on Thursday. We would like to thank all our parents and supporters who bought lines from the girls and the local shops, and a special thank you to the Manning Gaels and Dromard players who bought lines from the girls prior to togging out for their match. The girls work so hard to fund their club during the year and they really appreciate it when the lads support them in their efforts. In return it must be nice to have seen that support returned during your game from the sideline.

Birthdays: We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Avril Cosgrove who will be 13 this week from our u/14 Panel, and Grace Tierney who will be 9 and who is already holding down a place on the u/12 Panel.

County Matters: A good win for the County Seniors in their semi-final v Carlow at the weekend. They now face Wicklow in 2 weeks in the Final. Also Good Luck to the u/14 panel as they travel to Laois on Monday.
