Well done to Diarmuid Masterson, Paul McGee and Ronan McEntire who all featured in the game. Best of luck to the team and management in the penultimate league game against Laois on Saturday evening next in Portlaoise. Throw in is at 7pm.

Leinster U21 Championship: Best of luck to the Longford U21 panel and to Damien Sheridan and the management team against Dublin this evening (Wednesday).

Fixtures: This Sunday (26th March) sees the commencement of league action for our senior team. On Sunday at 2pm Dromard play Abbeylara in Páirc na nGael n the Bertie Allen Cup. Your support would be appreciated as we aim to get the 2017 season off to a winning start.

Launch of No Smoking Initiative: On Thursday 9th March, the club officially launched a Non-Smoking Policy throughout the club grounds, becoming the first club in County Longford to do so and one of only a few clubs countrywide. The club was delighted to welcome Ronan Flynn, GAA National Health and Wellbeing Officer from GAA Headquarters, Gail McNeil, Head of Cardiac Vascualar Team, HSE Dublin Leinster Region and Tracy Shanley, Granard Community Garda as guests on the night.  All of the speakers gave excellent and very informative presentations. Ronan discussed the work and objectives of the Healthy Club, Gail spoke of behalf of the HSE as partners in this project on the benefits of smoking cessation and a smoke free environment while Tracy spoke specifically on alcohol and drug abuse. The move to go smoke free complements our club's desire to create a healthy club and has been written in conjunction with Dromard GAA's Alcohol and Drug policy. The aim is to protect the health of all individuals involved with the club and the policy applies to all members, officials, coaches, players, parents, visitors and volunteers.  Recognising that role modelling can have a significant impact on the junior members of the club, two club ambassadors have been appointed. For willingly agreeing to be those ambassadors, our thanks goes to Cait Murphy from the Ladies Club and Paul McGee from the Senior Squad. After the policy was signed into place the remaining part of the launch focused on selecting the winners of the "No Smoking Club" competition where the children from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes of Dromard National School had created posters around this specific theme. Our guests on the night were given this very difficult job and after much deliberation the winners were: Tara Gray (3rd), Tom Myers (4th) Kate O'Connor (5th) and Alyssa McErlane (6th). Well done to all.

Table Quiz: In May 2017, Brian Kiernan, Ballyduffy, Moyne is travelling to India with SUAS (a Student Volunteer Programme) for ten weeks to work as a volunteer teaching assistant with disadvantaged children. To help raise funding for this Programme, Brian is organising a Table Quiz in The Breffni Arms Hotel Arva on this Friday night 24th March at 8:30pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Fixtures and Results: Following a request from Grattans our Senior Panel agreed to a postponement of our Gold Cup match scheduled for Saturday last. Grattans have a very young panel and 8 of their girls were due to tog out for Ballymahon Mercy in a PPS Junior B semi final,on the Monday. The match will now be rescheduled at a later date. The next game for our Seniors will be this Sunday 26th March when we entertain near neighbours St.Helen's in Pairc Na nGael in the Gold Cup, throw in 12 30pm. All support will be most welcome.

Underage Training: After a break for St. Patrick's weekend we will be back in harness this Saturday at 10 00am. This will be the last chance to train before the U/12 and U/16 season begins the week following, so let's have a good turnout. Our U12s start their season on Mon27th with a home match v Mullinalaghta, and U/16 panel begin on Thurs 30th away to Ballymahon/Forgney. You will be sent a text reminder once we receive the throw -in times, so you can start organising your lifts now. Any problems let us know.

Birthday Greetings: Just one girl to mention this week and its Eleanor O'Reilly from our U/10 Panel who will be 8 on Saturday. We hope you have a lovely day.

County Matters: Well done to all the Dromard girls who are togging out for the County. The Seniors continued on with their 100% record by beating Fermanagh on Sunday, whilst the Minors done well to hold Dublin to a 2-point lead at half time, before succumbing to defeat in the Leinster Quarter Final. Next weekend sees three of the County Panels out. U14s host Wexford on Saturday in round 2, having had a creditable draw in round 1 v Westmeath. Sunday sees U/16 away to Meath in round 2, having lost to Laois in round 1, and the Seniors endeavour to keep their 100% record when they host Kilkenny. Good Luck to everyone.
