Killoe began their Longford SFC title defence on a winning note yesterday evening, beating Clonguish 0-14 to 0-9 in Drumlish.

The Young Emmets were good value for their victory at the Monaduff grounds but only after being made to fight all the way by Clonguish, inspired by debutant Jack Duggan.

Larry Moran, Mark Hughes and Daniel Mimnagh had pointed Killoe into a 0-7 to 0-4 half time lead and the trio were to the fore throughout. The holders could afford to lose Mickey Quinn to a late black card.

In the opposing group, former Leinster champions Mullinalaghta will face their 2019 championship conquerors Colmcille in Dromard tomorrow evening (throw-in 6.30pm).
