Without stating the obvious, Longford manager Denis Connerton believes something needs to be done address the gulf in class between Dublin and the rest of Leinster.

Connerton can be proud of his charges' performance against the mighty Dubs last Sunday, but ultimately, they were no match for Jim Gavin's troops.

A 2-25 to 0-12 defeat for Longford is nothing for the Midlanders to be ashamed about as Dublin have been defeating teams in the province by similar score-lines for the past few years now.

Longford's cause was not helped by the first half dismissal of James McGivney for a robust challenge on Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton, which resulted in the veteran 'keeper receiving hospital treatment.

However, Connerton was more concerned by the widening gap in the the province and stressed to the awaiting media that it is a situation that needs to be looked, while adding that they will now focus on the qualifiers.

"Something needs to be done, the gap is widening instead of getting smaller. Dublin are miles ahead of everyone else in the province," said Connerton.

"We'll go away and we'll rest for a couple of days but you needn't worry we'll be back and we'll give the qualifiers everything. It's real championship football, we'll give it everything we have."
