Longford's Donal McElligott

They say the best way to recover from a defeat is to get straight back into action, but for Longford footballers they must wait another week to get their NFL Division Three campaign back on track.

Longford captain Donal McElligott admitted to the Longford Leader that it would be great to have a competitive game this weekend to get over the heartbreaking one point defeat to Armagh last Sunday.

The Midlanders battled bravely throughout the game and certainly deserved at least a point, but the fact that they finished the match with 14 men didn't help their cause as a late 1-01 for the Orchard County saw them take the spoils.

Longford host Wexford on Sunday week, February 25th and McElligott has urged the players for a positive response as they try to get their promotion hopes back on track.

"The natural thing is to try and get out next week and it would be nice to see if we could rectify the situation. We have a lot of work to do and obviously the lads need to keep fresh as well for the four games that are left. We will try and get the balance right over the next couple of weeks.

"There are lads that have been playing for years who are well able to speak up and motivate the rest of us. It's great that everyone is working together and want to do their best for Longford. The few changes in the backroom team has added an extra element this year and hopefully we can keep it going."
