The Late Paddy McCarthy
The Death has taken place of Paddy McCarthy No. 10 St. Dympna's Terrace, Mulgrave Street, Lirnerick. Paddy was married to Maureen O'Connor, Carrigkerry. He was in poor health for a number of years.
A native of Cappamore in East Limerick, he was 83 years old. Paddy and Maureen met while on the nursing staff of St. Joseph's Hospital, Limerick. He also worked for the Greyhound board at The Market's Field where he was very popular with the race-goers.
Paddy will be fondly remembered from his days as a Gaelic Games
reporter with The Limerick Weekly Echo. He wrote under the pen name of Green Flag reporting on West Limerick matches in the 1960's and early 1920's. He gave great coverage to the local teams Carrigkerry, Kilcolman and Ardagh/Carrigkerry during those
years and enjoyed their matches with Ballyhahill, Rathkeale, Glin, and Askeaton.
His removal took place from Griffin's funeral Home, John's Gate, Pennywell to St. John's Cathedral on Good Friday. Burial took place after prayers on Saturday, March 22 to Kilmurry cemetery in Castletroy.
Sympathy to his wife Maureen, sons Paddy, Noel, Kevin, Tony, Declan, daughter Margaret, the O'Connor family, all other relatives and friends. A large crowd attended the removal and burial, testament to the popularity of the families involved. His passing is much regretted by all. May he rest in peace. (Ardagh/Carrigkerry)
