Sexton, Phil

July 14, 2007
The Late Phil Sexton The death has taken place of Phil Sexton of Camas. Phil had been in poor health for the last few years and had been in hospital for the previous two weeks, where he died. Phil was in his 93rd year. He had been one of the real "characters" of the parish throughout his life. He always had a smile on his face and every story was a happy one. He spent most of his working life in Askeaton Creamery where he was a great friend of Patrick Mullane. For many years Phil was the backbone of Monagea GAA and particularly with the underage teams. It was not unusual seeing eight or nine of his team coming from his morris minor. Music was another great love of Phil's. He was an outstanding accordion player and with the other local musicians including his late brother Patsy, he played at many a local venue. During his life he was a loyal member of the Fianna Fail party. For many years he was at the heart of the annual Monagea Fianna Fail outings. Phil also had a great love for horses. He was a regular at the local booking offices with his cross doubles, trebles etc. Phil's remains were removed from Reidy's Funeral Home to Monagea Church and burial took place in Monagea Graveyard. Phil deeply regretted by his wife Kit, son Pat and daughter Kathleen. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Courtesy of the Limerick Leader 14th July 2007
