The late Jack Mullane
The death took place in Cork of Jack Mullane, Blackrock, Cork and formerly of Strand, Monagea. For many years Jack and his wife Eva were at the centre of life in Strand with their pub and shop. In his young days Jack was an outstanding hurler and any though struggles on the field are still spoken about. In the late eighties Jack had a miraculous escape when he fell from the pub roof. This led to Jack and Eva selling the pub in the early 1990's and retiring to Cork. There he enjoyed some happy years of retirement until his final illness. The funeral took place from Reidy's to Monagea church with burial in the local cemetery following mass on Ash Wednesday. It was fitting that the Mullane family should return to the pub, which they formerly owned, after the funeral for some much-needed refreshments with their friends, many of whom had travelled long distances. Jack is survived by his wife Eva, daughters Noelle and Evelyn, son in law Michael, sisters, granddaughters, nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
Sympathy is also extended to Pat, Lil and Michelle Harnett of Strand on the death of Pat's Brother John Joe of Ballinabearna. His funeral took place on Saturday to Ardagh Church with burial in Churchtown Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
