The late Joe Stack The beautiful summer weather could not mask the palpable cloud of grief and sadness that gripped the community of Asdee and Ballylongford following the deaths in the space of 24 hours of two of the parishes most charismatic personalities. The community bade farewell to Joe Stack, Kilcolman who died in listowel hospital, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous fight against terminal illness. Despite all the trips he had to make up and down to Cork for treatment he always put a brave face on things and never burdened anyone with the obvious stress that he had to endure in the process. A gifted tradesman, Joe worked for O'Gormans for many years an built up a great relationship with people all over the North Kerry area through his work. A very good footballer in his youth Joe played with the great Asdee teams of the late 50s and early 60s and maintained his interest throughout his life-time. He also had a great passion for the game of 41 and was one of the best exponents of the game in the area. He was waked at the family home and the removal of his remains took place from Lynch's Funeral Home in Ballylongford to St. Mary's Church. He was buried in Kilconly Cemetery and is survived by his wife Nora, son Sean, daughters Majella and Breda, brother Jimmy, sister and all other family members and relatives.
