Jones, Gay

The late Gay Jones A great player and mentor was lost to Old Christians GAA Club with the untimely death of Gay Jones. Gay was virtually an institution in the club and was an inspiration to players during a career which commenced in the 1960s and culminated a mere two years ago when he lined out with our junior hurling team at the age of 53. Though small and stocky in stature, he was a giant on the hurling field and the club never had a more honest and determined player in our midst. He never shirked a battle, played the game fairly but without fear. He showed the same honesty and courage in his everyday life and never were these qualities more evident than in the manner in which he fought his illness during the past 18 months. Gay was not only a gentleman, he was a great friend who was constantly supportive, never negative. He will be greatly missed in Old Christians GAA Club, but our loss is nothing when compared to the loss borne by his family. He is mourned by Maura, Darragh and Carmel.
