The late Thomas Kelly The death occurred on May 2, 2006 of Thomas (Tom) Kelly, Castlequarter, Kilbehenny, County Limerick. Thomas died peacefully in the loving care of the matron, doctors, nurses and staff at Rathkeevin Nursing Home, Clonmel, County Tipperary. The deceased was a highly respected and popular member of the farming community and his death is deeply regretted. He was the father of five sons and three daughters. One son Vincent had predeceased him. Tom was an intensive dairy farmer and a member of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association. In his youth he played Gaelic football with his native parish, Ballylanders with whom he won a championship medal which he always cherished. He was an unassuming gentleman, kind neighbour and friend which contributed much to the social life of a large area of Munster. A noted singer he always sang Irish songs and never forgot the patriot songs of his area. He played 45 and other card games and was an excellent storyteller around the fire, a talent which was enjoyed by his listeners and earned him the plaudits. He was a member of the Galtee Gaels GAA committee and also played his part in the purchase and development of the John O'Mahony Gaelic Park. He was an astute man in the buying and selling of cattle. Two of his sons John and Michael are farming in Ireland, Danjoe is in the engineering business in Perth, Australia, Willie is involved in the machinery business. His daughter Joan lives in London in the insurance business; Margaret is in hotel management in Kinsale, and Mary is a florist in Mitchelstown. The remains of the deceased were removed from his residence where the prayers were recited by Very Reverend Father Dick Kelly PP Kilbehenny-Anglesborough to Kilbehenny Church where they were received by Father Kelly and, following requiem Mass by Father Kelly assisted by Very Reverend Father John O'Neill PP Ballylanders, the internment took place in the adjoining cemetery. The attendance at the deceased's residence and the removal to the church, Mass and burial drew a very large attendance which paid testimony to the popularity of his wife and family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Philomena (nee McGrath), sons John, Michael, Danjoe and Willie, daughters Margaret, Joan and Mary (Kiely), daughters in law, son in law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbours and friends.
