The late Naomi Mulcahy Sport was the great love of Naomi Mulcahy's life. She represented her club in and her county in ladies football and her ambition was to become a PE teacher, writes Colm Ward. She was a member of St Ailbe's Ladies football club, where she played U14 and U16. She won an All-Ireland medal with Limerick U14s and was a member of the U16 team. Speaking at her funeral, Marie Halvey-Purcell, chairwoman of St Ailbe's remembered getting a call from Naomi's school about an exceptional player that was a student there. When Naomi joined the club, she soon became an inspirational player, full of determination and a great team player. "She was a very very talented footballer. For her age, she was excellent," said Fr Connor Ryan, PP Hospital/Herbertstown. "Sport was her main hobby, but she was also very sociable," said a relative. "She loved her style." "She was very good to her neighbours and she helped everyone." Naomi was due to go into Leaving Cert. She had a wide circle of friends in school. This is the second tragedy to hit the Mulcahy family. Naomi's father, John, died suddenly after watching Munster beat Gloucester in the European Cup. The family were very well known in the area, particularly in the farming community and through John's involvement in Bruff Rugby Club, at Killballyowen, of which he was a co-founder in the 1970s. It was to Killballyowen that the three friends were going at the time of the accident. Naomi is survived by her mother, Aideen, her sister, Aoife and her brother's Shane and Richard.
