Bernard Condon
The news of the death of Bernard Condon was received with great sadness by the people of the parish. Bernard Condon was not just one of us; he was part of the life and times of the parish, like his fore fathers for several generations.
Bernard was of old established stock in the farming and business community. At the tender age of 20, in the midst of the second world war, Bernard took the immigrant trail to England.
One of our best footballers who gave many a sterling display in the green and gold, his love of the local club was foremost in his thoughts.
As soon as the football season started, Bernard and his beloved Beetle were a regular site in the village. He loved to linger and talk to his friends and neighbours, especially his contemporaries, outside the Church gate.
On the death of his mother, he returned to run the family business in the 1960s but wanderlust brought him back to England, were he remained until his recent death, Bernard will be sadly missed by all of us, as his annual visits were eagerly awaited by young and old. Despite years of exile Bernard Condon never lost he love of his native place. He was always a proud Ballylanders man.
His removal from Ryan's Funeral Home and requiem Mass attracted a large crowd from far and wide.
Fr. John O'Neill, PP., was chief celebrant, assisted by Fr. Hennessey, CC., Glenbrohane; Fr. Jimmy O'Donnell, CC., and two priests from Mount Mellery. Internment took place in the family plot in Ballingarry Cemetery.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his sons, David, Michael and Brian; grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends.
