The community and beyond were saddened when the news filtered through of the passing of John Moran of Garisson. After a short illness bravely bore his death brought widespread regret in his native Pallasgreen where he was held the in highest regard.
Always pleasant and cheerful and a great conversationalist he had a great interest in the GAA and the greyhound fraternity. His interest in politics saw him vice chairman of the Fianna Fail Cumann for a long number of years. A proud moment for John recently when his son Ted won a county intermediate football championship medal. John was a great family man and a good neighbour and he will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret, family and friend.
There was a hug attendance at the removal of his remains from Ryan's Funeral Home to Nicker Church, following Requiem Mass which was celebrated by Rev Fr Holloway assisted by Fr McSweeney and Fr Duggan of Rockwell. A large guard of honour from the GAA Club and his coursing friends led the cortege to Old Pallas cemetery. It was a fitting mark of respect to the deceased and his family. Following internment Billy Barry of the Doon Coursing Club sang one of John's favouite songs "The Church Gates of Cooraclare". He is survived by his wife Margaret, son Ted, daughters Audrey and Oonagh, relatives and friends.
As a mark of respect the Munster intermediate club football final involving Pallasgreen and Carbery Rangers was postponed.
