Daithi O'Sullivan, Elton and G'spillane The untimely death of Daithi O'Sullivan occurred after a long and courageous battle with cancer in November 19. Originally from Elton, Daithi was educated at Presentation De La Salle School in Hospital, eventually graduating from what is now know as the University of Limerick. While in Limerick he became involved with Limerick FC, serving as PRO in 1975/76, also finding time to be a member of the Hospital/Herbertstown under 21 football championship winning side in 1976, known as Na Fianna back then. When in college, he was elected UL student union president in 1979/80 where he is still remembered for his successful campaign to improve canteen facilties for the students. He taught Irish, English and French for a number of years before venturing into the private sector to open a video shop in Kilmallock. There he became an active member of the local soccer team and was responsible for arranging an attendance with the then Irish manager, Jack Charlton at the annual dinner. He was a familiar figure at Bulgaden Castle Lounge, where he ran the popular Sparx Disco for a number of years. In later years ge moved to Hospital to open a betting office and a pub, where his in-depth knowledge of sports, politics and general affairs ensured he was highly regarded by his peers. Daithi died peacefully at his residence in Ryvees Castle, Garryspillane surrounded by his family. He is very sadly missed by his wife, Mary, who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness, his parents, brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, kind and generous neighbours and a large circle of genuine friends.
