The Late Bill Lonergan
It was a sad news for all Gaels of Doon GAA and further afield with the news that Bill Lonergan passed away at the ripe old age of 93.
In 1929 he won the Munster Colleges Cup with Doon C.B.S. beating St. Colmans in the final . He was on the Limerick minor team in 1930 and also played on numerous county Junior teams but failed to make the star studded senior team of the 1934 to 1940 era. When Doon won the County Junior titles in 1937 and 1941, Bill was captain on both occasions.
His playing days were cut short due a leg injury but he took up refereeing and officiated at many games in the area. In 1989 he was elected as Life President of Doon GAA Club, an honour he richly deserved .
