Dillane, Denis

The Late Denis Dillane Sincere regret was occasioned in the parish at the death on May 8 of Denis Dillane, Chapel Street, Tarbert, which took place in the loving care of his family and the staff of the Oaklands Nursing Home, Derry, Listowel. Aged 83 years, Denis was a respected local personality and had only been ill since Christmas. His presence will be missed locally and more especially by his wife Teresa and family. Before being taken ill, Denis and Teresa walked together every morning to the local Supermarket to do their shopping and also travelled to Listowel on the bus one day a week. Over the years, he was well known for his ability in the making and hanging of curtains and drapes. Denis had a great knowledge fo race horses and enjoyed the odd flutter of his fancied horse. In his youth, he played Gaelic football and wore the green and gold with the Kerry minor team back in 1933 and 1939. There was a huge attendance at the removal of the remains from St. Mary's Funeral Home, Tarbert, to St. Mary's Church and members from the GAA club and from the local Fianna Fail Cumman formed a guard of honour as the remains were shouldered into the church. The chief celebrant at the funeral Mass was Very Rev. Mossy Brick, PP, Tarbert, assisted by Very Rev Philip O'Connell, PP, Ballylongford. Family members participated in the readings of Prayers of the Faithful and offertory procession. The burial took place in the new cemetery, Tarbert and Denis was the first person to be buried there. Denis is survived by his wife Teresa, son Gerard (Ged), Tarbert, daughter Ann Morgan, England, brother Michael, Dublin, grandchildren, great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Mary: son-in-law Pat; nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
