The Late Tommy Bennett A great GAA stalwart Mr Tommy Bennett, late of High Street, Croom was laid to rest at Ruligh Mhuire, Croom. Tommy died in England following a short illness. He was son of the late Jimmy and Eileen Bennett and brother of Jimmy, Jack, Liam, Eleanor and Ailish. Tommy donned the Croom colours and played in the underage and participated in county, minor and also at junior level. There was a special Guard of Honour by the Croom GAA Club on the evening of the removal of the remains. Many former hurling colleagues joined in the Guard of Honour who played with Tommy in the 50's and 60's. Tommy was a former detective with the Garda Siochana based in Dublin. The former general secretary of the Garda body, Mr Jack Marrianan, attended the burial on Saturday at St. Mary's Church, Croom. Fr Joe Kennedy, P.P. Croom, officiated with Canon Seamus Ambrose, P.P.
