The Late Tommy Devitt
The death took place of Thomas (Tommy) Devitt, Coonmore, Rearcross. He was aged 54 and was a member of the farming community. He had a great interest in all social activity in the parish with particular emphasis on the promotion of juvenile hurling within the Sean Treacy's club, where he served as a selector and committee member with the youth section. His intense enthusiasm for the Tipperary and Sean Treacy's GAA teams was evident to everyone who saw him on the sidelines or in the stands on match days, major or minor.
His brother Willie Devitt was a hurler of note in the 1960's and 1970's and represented Dublin at senior level. He was also prominent with the Doon club for a time. Tommy Devitt had an unwavering love for the '45' card game and attended the weekly session at Rearcross hall up to a week prior to his untimely demise. All his family are involved in the local social scene. His sons Myles, T.J., Paudie, Eamonn and Kieran are prominent with Rearcross F.C. and Sean Treacy's GAA.
