County Senior Football League

Fr. Caseys 0-06 St. Patricks 1-08

Fr. Caseys made the long trip to Limerick city last Monday evening to take on St. Patricks in the opening round of the county league. Without some of our more senior players, Fr. Caseys faced an uphill battle but this did not deter those that took to the field and in a very entertaining first half Fr. Caseys gave a very good account of themselves. Dominating possession, especially in the second quarter, Fr. Caseys would have been deserving of the half time lead but for some wayward shooting. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-05, St. Patricks 0-06.

The half time message was more of the same but unfortunately it was St. Patricks who started the brightest kicking two early points to stretch their lead. St. Patricks converted a penalty kick mid-way through the half to give themselves some breathing space while a missed penalty from Fr. Caseys five minutes later denied a potential comeback. Fr. Caseys battled until the end, kicking a late point but it was St. Patricks would took the game points after an impressive second half display. The final score was Fr. Caseys 0-06, St. Patricks 1-08

County Junior Football League

Fr. Caseys 1-11 Abbey Sarfields 2-03

Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers travelled to Corbally last Saturday for their opening game of the year. Numbers were light and some veterans had to dust off the football boots but everyone that took to the field gave a great account of themselves. Abbey Sarsfields started the brightest but were guilty of some poor wides in the opening minutes. Fr. Caseys eventually found their feet and kicked three unanswered points to race into an early lead. Connie O'Connor then reacted quickest to a great pass from Daniel Lyons and rifled the ball to the net. The teams exchanged points before the break, with Fr. Caseys leading at half time by 1-04 to 0-01.

Treaty Sarfields were not going to lie down however and within five minutes of the restart they had raised a green flag. With Jake Quirke and Adam Riordan holding firm in defence and Thomas Cahill running midfield, Fr. Caseys always looked in control however. Gerard O'Connor and James Collins rolled back the years in attack linking well with the new kids on the block and together they added more points to the scoreboard. When Treaty Sarsfields struck their second goal is was merely a consolation as Fr. Caseys held on for an important two points to kick start the campaign. The final score was Fr. Caseys 1-11, Abbey Sarsfields 2-03.
