The minimum age for playing at senior level for club and county will be raised from 16 to 17.

According to The Irish Independent, the Minor Review Workgroup, which was established to tackle evidence of stress on teenage footballers, will ask Central Council to increase the age of eligibility for adult football by one year.

At present, 16-year-olds qualify to line out at senior level but the commitee will forward a motion to Central Council to have the age limit upped to 17 at next month's Congress.

The recommendations of the Minor Review Workgroup, which are sure to be objected to by struggling rural clubs with limited playing resources, will be released on Wednesday.
