McInerney, Tom

One of Limerick's great GAA supporters Tom Mclnerney passed away last week and his drive and energy will be sadly missed by many.

Tom came from Knocklong and was very involved in the Garryspillane club in his early days. He served the club well before moving to Limerick.
He became the first" Secretary of the Na Piarsaigh club and in doing so played an outstanding part in building a great club.

Tom Mclnerney along with Noel Drumgoole and many others showed great foresight in developing this club and as a result many great players have gone on to serve Limerick.

Tom would make regular contact and was never slow to air his views about Limerick hurling, he did so because of massive desire to see Limerick do well. Speaking this week Timmy O'Connor, Chairman of the Na Piarsaigh club said.
"Tom Mclnerney was an outstanding clubman and he will forever be held in high esteem in the Na Piarsaigh club.

He and many others showed great vision and our club has suffered a great loss. Tom inspired people and were it not for people like him Na Piarsaigh might never have happened".

Limerick lost another great gael recently in Brendan Jones. Brendan gave huge service to the GAA and was involved with Hospital-Herbertstown and Ahane. He came from a great GAA family as his brother Liam played in goal for Limerick.

He played a key role in the purchase of the new field in Ahane and is a great loss to our games. To the Mclnerney and Jones families I offer my sincere sympathy.
