Tarbert lost one of its most colourful characters with the death of Nora Shanley. Known with affection throughout the entire North Kerry area Nora was a great Gaelic football fan and followed the fortunes of her native club Tarbert and the Kerry team with great passion. Throughout her life she made a huge contribution to life in the Tarbert area and got around everywhere in her motorbike which was has main source of transport. Very well known on the local social scene Nora enjoyed a few drinks from time to time and had a great passion for music and dancing. A lady that lived life to the full she was the life and soul of any social gathering in the area and was held in the highest esteem by people of all age groups. In declining health in recent years she had been residing in the Old Folks Home in Listowel for the past couple of years where she was also very popular with all the residents and staff. Internment took place to Kilnaughtin Cemetery. Her many good friends in the local G.AA. club formed a guard of honour in recognition of her enormous contribution to the promotion and support of the game in the area (Asdee) Courtesy of The Limerick Leader June 2002
