Meehan, Michael
January 01, 2001
The death occurred of Michael Meehan, Castleconnell also of Shelbourne Road and New Road Thomondgate. He had been a shopkeeper.
Michael was a much liked and simple man whose pleasures in life were to be involved with others in many varied activities. He had a great love for swimming and could be seen in his youth diving into the river Shannon from the top of the metal bridge or up at the Forty Foot.
Michael had a great passion for hurling and football. He followed Limerick's progress for well over half a century and was also very much involved in the affairs of Treaty Sarsfields as a selector in the great era of the early fifties and also in the seventies. Michael was also a great fan of Shelbourne Soccer Club.
Michael will be missed by many friends that he had in the sporting circles of Limerick City.
To meet Michael on the street one would think that time stood still. He always had time to stop and talk and his power of recollection of times past was astounding.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, children and grandchildren.
