Sean Hayes RIP

There were emotional scenes in Oola when the remains of native Oola man, Sean Hayes, who passed away on September 12, were removed to Oola church on September 14, followed by Requiem Mass on the September 15 which was concelebrated by Fr. Tom Ryan, P.P., Murroe, chief celebrant, accompanied by Fr. Hearne, Fr. Herbert and Fr. Holloway. Sean was buried in the family grave in Doon cemetery.

Although Sean lived in Murroe for some time, 'Home' to Sean was always OOLA, where he was born, christened, baptised and confirmed.
Sean was well respected and highly regarded.
He was very well liked by young and old and was known for his congenial and jovial manner and his keen intellect.

As a tribute to Sean, Oola GAA club formed a guard of honour and his coffin was draped with the red and white flag of Oola GAA as a measure of the esteem he was held in. He loved sport, both hurling and Gaelic football, and was a member of the winning County Championship football team.
He had a great sense of humour and wit and could hold his own in any discussion no matter what the topic was.

Sean was a scholar, a religious man, a fluent Irish speaker and a walking encyclopaedia up to the end.

He could recite Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Shelly and many more from memory when requested and without notice. His powers of recall were unsurpassed.
Hayes Solicitors, Glentworth St, Limerick which is owned by members of Sean's immediate family, remained closed for the week as a mark of respect.
Sean is survived by his wife Alice and family.
May he rest in Peace.
