County Championship Structures:
The draw for the restructured County Senior Football Championship took place on Wednesday evening last, due to the Covid 19 pandemic a change in structure was required given the short window for club activities. As a result the championship has been condensed into four groups of three teams rather than the traditional two groups of 6. Each team will be guaranteed at least three championship games. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter finals with the bottom placed team in each group facing the unenviable prospect of relegation semi-final. As we qualified for the county semi final in 2019 we were a seeded team, as result the four semi finalists from 2019 were all kept apart in the group stages of the championship this year. We have been drawn in group 3 alongside Galbally and Monaleen. We faced off against Galbally in the 2019 county championship comfortably seeing off the challenge of the men from the foot of the Galtee Mountains. Interestingly Galbally come into the championship on the back of a lot of success at underage level having won the County Minor ‘A’ Football title in 2016 and County U21 title in 2018, overcoming us in the county semi-final and have begun to integrate a lot of their underage talent into their senior side over the past three years. Our record against our second opponent in the group Monaleen has been very disappointing over the years, we last met in the county quarter final in 2018 in Kilmallock, and after a bright start to the game we suffered a 3.13 to 2.9 defeat to bring an end to our 2018 county championship aspirations. Round 1 of the SFC begins the weekend of August 16 with Galbally sure to provide a tough opening round encounter. The winner of that game then has a week’s rest which will be vital given the condensed nature of the championship with the loser playing Monaleen on August 23 before the final round takes place on August 30. If we defeat Galbally in our opening round game we will have two weeks before our second round game with Monaleen, if we are defeated by Galbally in round 1 then we play Monaleen on August 23.
Scrap Metal Collection:
Due to increasing demand St. Kieran’s GAA and ADRSC will be holding a scrap metal collection on September 23 next. It is a number of years since our last scrap metal collection and it is an excellent opportunity for those of you with unwanted scrap metal to dispose of it and in doing so playing a helping hand in supporting both local organisations. We would encourage those of you with scrap metal to contact David on 0862205572 to arrange a drop off in the coming weeks. Please see the list below for the range of products that can be disposed of.
