Broken jaw didn't hold Gillane back

Patrickswell manager Ciaran Carey was full of praise for Aaron Gillane after he returned from a broken jaw sustained against Kilmallock five weeks ago to post 0-6 in yesterday's Limerick SHC final.

The county star was in fine scoring form as the 'Will defeated holders Na Piarsaigh by 1-17 to 0-15 at the Gaelic Grounds to capture a record 20th county title.

“I was very pleased for Aaron. He broke his jaw a good number of weeks ago," Limerick legend Carey said.

“He got another tip in training about a fortnight ago, but he was adamant he wanted to play so we were kind of holding him back for the last minute. Inevitably, we were dictated by medical advice so once they gave the green light the ball was in Aaron’s court, which was to play.

“In fairness, you could see he was a bit ring-rusty because he could have come away with about four or five points today from play, but he still played a huge part in it.”
