U14 County Final

Shannon Gaels 3-14

Ballinacurra Gaels 3-4
Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale was the venue for the biggest game of the year for our young  Gaels. The first half was played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half so the halftime scoreline of 2-9 to 0-0 slightly flattered us, with Ballinacurra missing a few opportunities also.

Our opponents came out strongly in the 2nd half and scored a goal and 2 point quickly. However, our boys showed their mettle and kicked some great scores of their own against the wind. Great credit is due to the management for the way they adapted to the conditions and rather than kicking hopeful  balls forward, they displayed some brilliant interlinking play, by running and handpassing the ball into the scoring zone. Indeed it was one of these great moves that led to a wonderful goal for Billy Hogan which killed off Ballinacurra challenge. In fairness to our opponents, they never dropped the heads and kepy going until the final whistle.

Overall, it was our lads great attitude and work ethic around the field which gave them a well deserved victory. Best for Shannon Gaels were Seamus Dillane,Tom Healy, Billy Hogan and Harry Tobin.

It was a wonderful performance from our lads, with a large array of catching, kicking and running skills on display and great credit is due to their coaches, Brian Cunningham and Pádraig Hogan. The future of football is very bright for this team!
