County  Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 4:

St Patrick's 0 16  Hospital/Hebertstown 1 11

On Saturday night last in Bruff our Intermediate hurlers kept their championship hopes alive with a great two point win over Hospital.

We were slow to start and were soon down three points to no score  with  ten minutes  played.Pointed frees by Calvin Moran and Gearoid Hegarty brought it back to the minimum midway through the half,  but Hospital were to score  the next three points. A brace of Calvin Moran frees and a fine point from play by John Mullane had us level with half time approaching.

We finished the half  strongly with two points  from Gearoid Hegarty to have us lead  by 0 8 to 06 at the break.  It was clear to see from the first half that frees were to dominate proceedings so both teams had to  have the tackling technique perfected on the resumption.

The second half  began with a Calvin Moran free  but Hospital  again replied with three  points of their own. Another two pointed frees from Calvin Moran had us lead  by two once  again and now hurling really well.

St Patrick's then  hit a purple patch,  scoring the next four points  with Gearoid Hegarty scoring another two, one of which was a sublime score from all of 70 yards, and a point each from Calvin Moran and Conor Kavanagh. We were dominating at this stage and playing our best hurling of the year, with some of the scores worked from back to front out of the top drawer. In truth  we should have  been further ahead at this stage, but still led by five heading into the final minutes.

 Hospital went in search of  goals and a 21 yard free went narrowly over. A long range delivery into the square, led to a  brilliant catch and goal and the lead was now one with  two minutes to play. The exchanges were frantic and both teams contested every ball with gusto. A St Patrick's clearance landed on the half way line close to the stand side in Bruff and both teams looked to win the crucial ball. Calvin Moran was to come out with the sliotar and weaved his way through for a brilliant score from out on the right to clinch a vital two point win. 

Our fate is now in our own hands and a win against Glenroe on Saturday week will see us qualify for the knockout stages.

Defeat  means qualification from group two  cannot be  achieved but a massive shift by the team  in Peafield. The future is bright for this panel with many underage again next year. This display when down a number of players once again,through injury and holiday, bodes really well for this group. Fr Caseys will be visitors to Rhebogue On Tuesday August 27.

U12 Trip to Thurles:

Our U12 hurling team had a day to remember in Semple Stadium Thurles on Tuesday. The weather was kind and St Patrick's played four teams from across Munster, followed by a stadium tour. Well done to all who travelled for a  special hurling experience.

Summer Camp:

St Patrick's 2019 Summer camp finished on Friday  and what a great week it was once again. Big numbers, the weather was fairly kind and  it was topped off today by the visit our own legendary Limerick star  Gearoid Hegarty.  Well done all.
