West Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship Round 5:

St. Kieran’s 1-14

Kilmallock 1-17

The junior hurlers played their final group game against Kilmallock on Sunday evening last in Knockaderry. We went into the game knowing that nothing less than a victory would guarantee passage to the quarter final stage of the competition. We starred well racing into a 5 points to 1 lead after 15 minutes with Donie Nolan leading the way from placed balls. Kilmallock edged their way back into the game before half time with their scores coming mainly from sloppy play on our behalf. We led at half time on a score line of 0-8 to 0-5.

Kilmallock upper the temp in the second half with the aid of the breeze. We lost our shape a little and struggled to gain possession for long periods around the middle third. Kilmallock enjoyed a purple patch midway through the second half and went into a 6 point lead. Our boys duly fought back and cut the deficit to a goal but couldn’t cut the lead any further with Kilmallock running out victors on a score of 1-17 to 1-14.

While it was disappointing to lose on the night a lot of progress has been made in 2019. We thank the players and management team of Chris Madigan, Aidan O’Rahilly and Noel Hennessy for their efforts throughout the year.

West Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Round 1:

The junior footballers begin their championship campaign this Saturday evening when they travel to Ballyhahill to play Athea in Round 1 with a 7pm throw in time.
