Patrickswell GAA notes

June 11, 2018

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers retained top spot in the All County Hurling League with a tough 2-20 to 1-23 draw in Garryspillane.  Patrickswell have two wins, a draw and a defeat. On Saturday June 16, we are scheduled to host Na Piarsaigh at 7.30pm.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: It was a busy week for the Junior A hurlers as they battled in two competitions.  In the County League semi-final, Patrickswell were pitted against a strong Doon team.  It was a very tough and physical match, but Nigel Carey's men prevailed by 2-16 to 2-11.  The victory sets up a mouth-watering League final between the winners of Adare and Kilmallock.  After 48 hours' recuperation, Patrickswell faced Old Christians in the City Championship.  Paul O'Brien's early goal and Owen McNamara's point gave the 'Well a perfect start at 1-1 to 0-0.  Old Christians eventually settled and they equalised with a flurry of four unanswered points.  After fifteen minutes of play, Patrickswell held a narrow 1-4 to 0-5 advantage when Jason Gillane (0-2) and Owen McNamara contributed fresh points.  Our opponents surged forward again and rattled over four consecutive points to lead by 0-9 to 1-4.  David Woulfe's point just before the half-time whistle meant that Patrickswell trailed by one point at 0-9 to 1-5.

The second half opened with high intensity from both teams. After forty minutes, the scoreboard displayed level scores at 1-8 to 0-11.  Thankfully, Patrickswell seemed to have superior fitness and began to dominate the possession and chances.  Andrew Carroll was in sparkling form and orchestrated a ten-minute spell where the 'Well outscored Old Christians by seven points to one point.  There were five minutes left and Patrickswell were now buoyant at 1-15 to 0-12.  Paul O'Brien managed to close the match with a second goal and Jason Gillane's insurance point delivered a superb 2-16 to 0-12 win. The record stands at 100% with three wins secured.  The next scheduled match is on Friday June 15 at 7.30pm against Na Piarsaigh in Claughaun.

INTERCOUNTY HURLING: Congratulations to Limerick for producing a stunning performance to beat Waterford in the Munster Championship.  The club is very proud of Cian, Diarmaid and Aaron. Best wishes for the trip to Clare.  We're confident that Limerick can cement their place in the Munster final.
