The position of Leitrim senior football manager is up for grabs and already there are two early front runners.

Following Shane Ward's shock decision to step down along with his management team, the Leitrim County board must start the process of finding his successor.

Two names already being strongly touted with the role are former Leitrim footballer Aidan Rooney and ex-Longford star Padraic Davis.

Rooney is manager of Glencar/Manorhamilton and led Sligo to the Connacht MFC final last year, while he would be a popular choice amongst supporters.

Davis led Mohill to a senior league and championship double last year and he has the pedigree to step up to inter-county level.
