Leitrim manager Martin Cunniffe has stressed to his players the importance of a win against Lancashire this weekend.

The sides meet in the Lory Meagher Cup second round and having lost their opening game to Warwickshire, the Connacht outfit are now in the last chance saloon.

A win for Cunniffe's charges brings them right back into contention for the fourth tier All-Ireland SHC title.

And Cunniffe told the Leitrim Observer that it was a must win game for them or their season was over.

"If we don't win we are out of the competition. It is as simple as that. We are going over on Friday night. We know where we stand," said Cunniffe.

"We must win. If we win we are back in. If we lose we are gone. Last year we got beaten in our first game. We won the next two games and turned it around."
