Dunne, Vincent

December 30, 2002
The Late Vincent Dunne The death occurred suddenly of Vincent Dunne, Poormansbridge, Abbeyleix. Born and reared in Clonad, Vincent returned to the original family home in Poormanbridge, where he spent the remainder of his time farming, apart from a three year spell in England working for G.E.C. Vincent had a great affinity with horses and gained a well deserved reputation as a trainer of working animals. If a working horse was needed, a raw young horse was sent to Vincent and returned as a placid, well trained animal totally at home in any working horse situation. Vincent was also a great lover of Gaelic Games, gaining many awards as a hurler with Clonad including a County Championship medal in 1947 and while working in England, hurled with the great Eire Og club. He was a member of the I.D.F. who rewarded him for his services with medal in 1942. An avid reader, great dart thrower, story teller without peer, he was a philosopher in his own right and will be sadly missed by Vincent is survived by his wife Josie, sons Fintan and Liam, daughters Marie, Noreen and Frances, brothers Dominic, Mickey, Bill, Christy, Leo and Anthony, sisters Maureen, Gertie, Nora and Eileen, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral took place to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix and alter Requiem Mass the following day, was interred in the adjoining cemetery, Abbeyleix. May he rest in peace.
