O'Dea, Ned

January 25, 2012
It was a sad week at the Cobbler's Hill and neighbouring surrounds with the sudden passing of Ned O'Dea, RIP. Ned was a proud Ballypickas man and wore the number three jersey with great distinction for many years.

His kind word will be sadly missed by both young and old within the club, as the large turnout in the guard of honor showed how Ned was held in high esteem by all.

He was well known as a tough full back who dealt quickly with many a dangerous forward. Ned had success in the green and gold winning Junior 'A' titles in '85 and '94. After hanging up his boots Ned continued to play an active role in the club and went on to hold the roles of Chairman and Secretary along with contributing as a selector for many years. Despite taking a more backseat role in recent years, Ned would always be seen driving in to training to keep an eye on the latest young hurlers with an encouraging word for all.

Ned also represented the club in Scor and played in many roles as part of the drama group. Ned will be fondly remembered for his song Toor-a-loo which he sang with great enjoyment at many a social gathering. The club conveys sincerest sympathy to Ned's family.

Ned will be sadly missed by all his friends in Ballypickas, toor-a-loo Ned, until we meet again. Our smypathies also go to the family of long outstanding club member Aidan Barry and family on the recent passing of Mrs Sheila Barry, RIP.
