Clare man Ger Hoey also passed away suddenly last week, and he was fondly remembered within the county after winning a Laois SHC medal with Portlaoise in 1989, when he was working in the town in AIB. He also played in the 1990 final, which Portlaoise lost to Camross, as well as playing intercounty for Laois.
