Jack Cooney has developed a nice habit of picking up silverware since taking over the reins as Westmeath senior football manager.

The Lake County added the Allianz FL Division 3 cup to the O’Byrne Cup at Croke Park this evening to maintain their impressive start under Cooney’s watch.

“Yeah, we love playing for a cup,” he smiled in his post-match interview with TG4’s GAA BEO.

“We are delighted with the win today. Our priority last week was to get promoted up to Division 2 and then our focus quickly changed on to the final here today.

“I’m delighted for the lads that they won it.”

‘Man-of-the-match’ Ger Egan doesn’t think today’s encounter will have any bearing on their championship fixture with Laois which is pencilled in for May 26.

“Championship is going to be a different story.

“It will be all on the day in seven weeks’ time, both teams will go and work hard so looking forward to that too. It’s not going to be easy.”
