Laois manager John Sugrue admits that they didn’t make life easy for themselves in the FL3 race for promotion.
The O’Moore men guaranteed their place in FL2 for next season when defeating Carlow last Sunday afternoon; to make it two consecutive promotions for Sugrue’s charges.
It looked as if Laois might miss out had Down beaten Louth and Westmeath won their outstanding fixture against the Wee County, but the Mourne men losing, opened a door of opportunity for Laois and even though they were made work hard against Carlow, they got the necessary victory.
“We had our ups and downs, but we sorted ourselves out with a very strong late run and it’s great for them boys in there, they are able to play football and it’s great for them,” Sugrue told the Leinster Express.
He added: “We certainly did it the hard way. This year we have had a fairly big change around in bodies and lads coming in can take their time to bed into a team, so we haven’t found our groove properly until the last few games, and even at that, we’ve only found our groove in patches.”
