Arrests made in Laois footballer assault investigation

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault on a Laois footballer.

Daniel O'Reilly - who featured as a substitute in Saturday's Allianz FL Division 4 final victory over Carlow - suffered multiple fractures to his skull after he was attacked at a taxi rank in the Potato Market are of Carlow town at approximately 1am on Monday morning.

Two men - both aged in their twenties - have been arrested by Gardai investigating the incident.

They are being detained in Kilkenny and Thomastown Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 4 - Criminal Justice Act 1984.
