Down Ladies Round Up

February 20, 2017

Down Senior Ladies County Team

The ladies continued their league campaign on Sunday 19th February, with an away game to Tipperary. Unfortunately, the score line in the first half didn't reflect the game of play, and in the second half things just didn't go their way and the girls lost the game. Final score: Tipperary 5.14 Down 0.03. Next up for the ladies in the fourth round of the league, away game to Roscommon this Saturday 25th February. #MourneLadiesRising

Down U14 Ladies County Team

The Down U14 panel played a series of challenge matches with Antrim on Sunday 19th February in Belfast. These matches are important opportunities for the girls to stake a claim in the starting 15 in the 1st competitive match at home to Fermanagh in early April. All 30 players played a full game and the level of competition is very health. The mentors will now use the next few weeks of training to prepare for the Ulster Blitz on the 11th March and may consider a final challenge match in late March

Training will continue next Saturday with full details of time and venue posted later. U13s
The U13s will be training on Sunday morning this week in Assumption Grammar in Ballynahinch from 10.30am - 12.00 noon and also on Thursday night from 6.00pm - 7.00pm at the same venue.

U13 Ladies County Development Team

Down U13 girls continued their development on Sunday with challenge games against Antrim in Belfast. Against physically stronger Antrim sides, it took the Down girls a while to get up to the tempo of the matches. However, when they did they fought hard for every ball and put together lovely passages of play which resulted in some wonderful goals. More game time and training will help the girls gel and the experience of playing these games ahead of the Ulster League will stand to them as they know the effort required at this level to compete. A big thank you to the parents for turning the girls out early on a Sunday morning. The U13 girls were presented with their new jerseys on Sunday by Darren Ireland of Vanilla Restaurant Newcastle. The U13 Mentors and Girls would like to thank the Vanilla Restaurant for their kind sponsorship.

Training continues next Saturday at Red High, Downpatrick from 10.30 am to 12 noon.
