Holden, Rose

August 30, 2013
The death has taken place at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny of Rose Holden. (Nee Sherwood), Love Lane. A home-maker all her life she raised a large family with her husband Michael. She had a heart of gold and was so generous of her time to anyone in need. There were poignant scenes as she left her beloved Love Lane for the final time, in a fitting tribute she was carried shoulder high, she could have been so proud to see all of her 25 grandchildren out in front, while Erins Own GAA Club formed a guard of honour. A woman who was content to work always behind the scenes she washed the jerseys for Erins Own for over 20 years in the days when there were no modern appliances , with a house full of children for Rose everyday was a good day for the washing. She enjoyed the simple things of life and was a regular at the local bingo sessions. Though small in stature she was never afraid to speak her mind no matter what company she kept. She was laid to rest in the Parish Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception by Msgr. Michael Ryan P.P. Castlecomer assisted by Fr Ian Doyle, Kiltown and Fr Joe Campion CC. Castlecomer.
She is survived by her husband Michael, sons Michael (Tallagh, Dublin), Robert (Callan), Seamie (Carlow), Ger (England), Tom, Davy (Carlow), Willie (Stoneyford), Brendan; daughters Margaret (Kilkenny), Sharon, Majella, Susan, brothers Bill, Jim, sister Peig, grandchildren, other relatives and a large circle of friends.
