Brady, Jim
June 28, 2013
The death of Jim Brady which occurred in St. Columba's Hospital, was heard of with regret in the community. Jim was a member of a well known and respected family and was a popular figure in the village. His death follows only five weeks after his brother Buggy passed away. For the past number of months he was in the care of the staff in St Columba's Hospital, Thomastown, where he was well looked after.
Jim was employed by the Mosse family for most of his working life both in Duneden and in the flour mill. In the late 'forties, he played minor hurling with Monrue, Knocktopher and he also had a stint with James Stephen's minor team. He won a junior championship with Bennettsbridge in 1948 and was on the senior championship team in 1949 when they went down to Carrickshock in the first round. The team reverted to junior status in 1950.
There was a large crowd in attendance when Jim's remains were brought to St Bennett's Church for his Requiem Mass. Celebrant was Canon Patrick Duggan, PP. The lessons were read by Olwen and Aoife (nieces). The parish Choir sang accompanied by Mollie Cahalane. Canon Duggan extended sympathy to the family, on behalf of the parish.
Interment took place in Rathcusack Cemetery and refreshments were given in the Community Centre for family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, Frank (Dunbell), and he was predeceased by his sister, Anna and brothers Jack, Oliver and William. He is also mourned by his sister-in-law, Sheila, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
