Kilkenny look set to have to plan without James Maher for the coming year after the talented forward broke his leg.
The Kilkenny People reports that Maher suffered a suspected broken leg while training with his club last Tuesday night.
The St Lachtain’s clubman missed out on the 2016/17 campaign after he suffered a broken knee cap in freak farming accident.
However, he had battled his way back into Brian Cody’s plans and was a regular in the side throughout the league.
Cody has a number of injury issues to deal with as there is still no return date for defender Cillian Buckley who has not featured for Kilkenny since last year’s All-Ireland SHC quarterfinal defeat to Limerick.
While doubt also surrounds Richie Hogan who despite featuring in the league is struggling to shake off a back injury that has plagued him for the past 12 months or so.
